A race against time, 3,000 km from home

The call came in just after midnight: a traveller had suffered a serious cardiac event far from home, and the local hospital had stabilised him as far as it could. His family needed him brought back to Istanbul — fast, and safely.

Within hours our operations team had cleared the permits, mapped the route and readied the Hawker Beechjet 400A as a flying intensive care unit. A critical-care physician and flight nurse boarded with the full medical kit: ventilator, monitor-defibrillator, infusion pumps and oxygen reserves for the long leg ahead.

By the next afternoon the patient was on a stretcher in our cabin, monitored every minute of the way. We landed in Istanbul that evening and handed him over, stable, directly to the waiting hospital team — bedside to bedside, exactly as promised.
